Forget everything you ever heard about pop and skateboard performance

It’s the tips of your skateboard where pop begins. The sweet spot of the deck and the focal point where the energy from the impact and interaction between the tip and the riding surface enters your deck, creating the pop you need for every trick.

A new deck has the best pop because new tips offer the smallest possible footprint or area of contact with the riding surface. Friction is minimized because only a small area of the tip impacts the riding surface. Thus when your tips are new, maximum pop is achieved and as your tips wear down, the deck’s performance (and yours) declines dramatically. This is why pro riders replace their decks every few days. The tips of traditional Wooden Decks begin to lose their pop immediately. When you drag wood on asphalt, wood loses. Every Ollie damages your deck, reducing pop.

The tips are only “part” of the deck that you actually use, with wooden tip decks, the more you skate, the worse you skate, and the more often you need a new deck.
